OxiClean Carpet Spot & Stain Remover:
"Can I use OxiClean Carpet Spot & Stain Remover on my travertine floor?" This question has been proposed to me several times this month from individuals who are trying to get their homes ready for the holidays. This is an excellent question and the answer is an emphatic NO!
OxiClean Carpet Spot & Stain Remover, whose parent company is Arm & Hammer, has a pH level of 4.0, this is according to its MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet). With a pH level of 4.0 this would make it an ACID. Acids, of any kind, will eventually etch, it literally eats the stone, travertine stone, no matter what type of sealer has been applied to the stone. The damage could be permanent or at best require the skill of a professional stone polisher to remove the etch marks from your travertine stone floors. It is important to state that the manufacturer of OxiClean Carpet Spot & Stain Remover DOES NOT recommend this product for anything other than carpets. You should avoid using this on any stone or concrete you have around your home. This would include granite, marble, slate, limestone, and of course concrete. Acid can and will permanently damage these type of surfaces.
