Top 5 Holiday Stains

Top 5 Holiday Stains

With the Holidays in full swing many of us will be gathering in homes and businesses to celebrate family, friends, and the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is a time of the year when carpet cleaners get really busy and we here at Liberty Floor Solutions are no exception. Folks want their homes and businesses to look their very best for their guests and this special time of the year.

According to a research survey the top 5 stains found in carpets for the holidays are:

1). Chocolate (26%). I think this was an easy one with chocolate candies, cakes, and hot cocoa being served to family and friends.

2). Kool Aid or Kool Aid type drinks (26%). This one threw me for a loop because I would have guessed coffee or soda.

3). Grease (23%). Even though the survey did not specify what type of grease most of us would agree that the kitchen is a very busy place this type of year. Baking, frying, etc. all require some type of oils in their list of ingredients.

4). Red or White Wine (21%). I think this is one is a 'no brainer' as many people give wine as a present for Christmas and New Year.

5). Candle Wax (19%). This too was an easy one for me to guess as my wife loves to burn the scented candles during the holidays.

If you have one of these stains there is a simple 3 Step Process to remove the stain. Before I get to the three steps it is important to note that you need to treat the stain IMMEDIATELY before it has a chance to set into the carpet fibres.

Step One: BLOT. Yes it is that simple. Blot with a white terry cloth towel. I always keep on hand bar towels for cleaning up messes. Make sure to NEVER use fabric softner on your towels as it will reduce the towels ability to absorb the spill.

Step Two: DILUTE. Take a cup of plain water and dilute the stain. Unless you have some of our residue free spot remover avoid adding soap. Soap will leave the area in a high pH and it will get dirty very fast.

Step Three: BLOT. Yes, blot again using something heavy to draw the water and the stain completely out of the carpet and the padding. Blot until the surface feels dry or almost dry. Let it completely dry out and then inspect your work. If it did not come completely out you may need the assistance of a professional.

Wishing you and your family a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
